Ingredients
Scale
- Two cups of 2% milk
- Two cups of heavy cream
- One cup sugar
- One teaspoon of vanilla extract
- One teaspoon of peppermint extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Three drops of green food coloring (optional)
- 1 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Prepare the Base: In a large bowl, stir together the milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, peppermint extract, and salt until the sugar has dissolved. Add a few drops of green food coloring to achieve the desired classic mint chocolate chip look.
- Churn the Ice Cream: Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions. About 10 minutes into the freezing process, add the miniature chocolate chips.
- Freeze Until Firm: Continue churning until the ice cream has thickened, about 20 minutes more. Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze until firm, about 2 hours.
Notes
- Storage: Store the ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer for up to two weeks to maintain its freshness.
- Variations: For a twist, try adding crushed peppermint candies or a swirl of hot fudge sauce to the ice cream before the final freeze.
