  • Total Time: 2 hours 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • Two cups of 2% milk
  • Two cups of heavy cream
  • One cup sugar
  • One teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • One teaspoon of peppermint extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Three drops of green food coloring (optional)
  • 1 cup miniature semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base: In a large bowl, stir together the milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, peppermint extract, and salt until the sugar has dissolved. Add a few drops of green food coloring to achieve the desired classic mint chocolate chip look.
  2. Churn the Ice Cream: Pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to the manufacturer’s instructions. About 10 minutes into the freezing process, add the miniature chocolate chips.
  3. Freeze Until Firm: Continue churning until the ice cream has thickened, about 20 minutes more. Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze until firm, about 2 hours.

Notes

  • Storage: Store the ice cream in an airtight container in the freezer for up to two weeks to maintain its freshness.
  • Variations: For a twist, try adding crushed peppermint candies or a swirl of hot fudge sauce to the ice cream before the final freeze.
