Here’s the thing, I don’t like spending lots of time prepping my meals. so, with this recipe we keep it SUPER simple! You really only need three ingredients and if you like you can add salt to give some flavor:

  • 1 cup Jasmine rice, high quality is ESSENTIAL
  • 1 1/4 cups water (This can depend on the altitude so make sure to test this ratio first to adjust)
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon salt (or more, if you like!)

Cooking Perfect Jasmine Rice in the Instant Pot

Alright, here’s where the magic happens! Get ready for this simple process – my mom calls it ridiculously simple. You just follow this simple steps and BOOM delicious perfect jasmine rice for the day. It really feels like it’s done by magic!

Rinse the Rice

First things first: you need to place the jasmine rice in a fine-mesh strainer and rinse under cold running water. I make this part QUICK. You’ll keep seeing milky water, do this until the water starts looking clear. Rinsing removes extra starch, making the rice fluffy. If you want sticky rice just skip this step, but in general, i do not recommend to skip this step!. This will take you only two or three minutes MAXIMUM, nothing at all!.

Add the Ingredients

Grab that Instant Pot, it’s time to bring out our star!. Simply dump the rinsed rice and water into the pot, mixing it well to distribute evenly. Now if you want to add some flavor you can add 1/2 teaspoon of salt, if not it will still taste amazing!

Set the Instant Pot

This is my favorite step cause is SUPER EASY. Put on the lid of the instant pot and set the valve to the SEALING position, ALWAYS. After that, choose the ‘Manual’ or ‘Pressure Cook’ function, selecting five minutes of high-pressure cooking. Yup, you read it RIGHT – only five minutes, is CRAZY, I know!.

Natural Pressure Release

When your Instant Pot has done its cooking duties, do not open the pot yet. This is VERY important, allow it to naturally release the pressure for 10 minutes before manually releasing any remaining pressure, this process will let all the flavors and steam distribute better through the rice. Do this for 10 minutes! And don’t rush!

Fluff and Serve

Okay the last step is THE BEST part. After letting it sit for a couple of minutes you’re good to go! When the pot is no longer under pressure carefully remove the lid and be amazed!. Now you must use a fork to gently fluff the rice, separating the grains for ultimate fluffiness. At this stage it is READY to serve and is AMAZING!

Tips for PERFECTLY cooked rice

These are tips from the PROS. With this info you can become a SUPERSTAR chef at home! Don’t be like me in the beginning hahaha!.

  • Rice to Water Ratio: The ratio of rice to water is key. I use 1 cup of rice to 1 1/4 cups of water, for an instant pot, but you might have to change the ratio depending on your pot and even altitude so experiment a bit. This step can save your cooking.
  • Don’t Skip the Rinse: Yes it is important, I told you, rinsing your rice really does makes the difference! I cannot stress how many times it saved me.
  • Fluffing is Crucial: Be kind to the rice. After pressure cooking, always fluff gently, with a fork. this step can be crucial if you over cook the rice a little bit.

Of course you can! just double all of the ingredients but keep the ratio right and try this only once you tried with the recipe first. You don’t want to experiment at the beggining!

What if my rice is too watery?

If your rice seems too wet, just cover it again after fluffing, let it sit and let it absorb all the water. This trick saves every single cook in the world and trust me, i know haha!

Can I use broth instead of water?

YES!! That’s a GREAT idea! You can do that with vegetable broth or chicken broth and the result would be incredibly delicious!. My sister in law told me about this and, YES I love her now.

How to store the rice

Let the rice cool down and place it into an airtight container. You can have it on the fridge for about three to four days maximum. This is AMAZING cause then you only reheat and ready!.
