Ingredients
Scale
- Kosher salt or coarsely ground sea salt (for the rim)
- 2 ounces (¼ cup) silver tequila
- 1½ ounces (3 tablespoons, about 1½ small limes) fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce (2 tablespoons, about ½ of a medium orange) fresh orange juice
- 1 teaspoon light agave nectar
- 1 lime wedge or round (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the glass: Pour a layer of salt onto a small plate. Run the wet edge of a lime slice along half of the rim of your margarita glass. Dip the rim into the salt at a 45-degree angle and roll it to coat. Fill the glass with ice and set aside.
- Mix the ingredients: In a small cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine tequila, lime juice, orange juice, and agave nectar. Shake well for 30 seconds.
- Serve: Strain the mixture into the prepared glass. Garnish with a lime wedge or round.
Notes
- Tequila: Use 100% agave tequila labeled as white, silver, or blanco for the best results. Recommended brands include Milagro, Hornitos, or Espolón.
- Salted rim: Consider salting just half the rim so you can control how much salt you taste with each sip.
- Juicing: Citrus fruits are easier to juice at room temperature. Roll the citrus on the cutting board before slicing to get more juice.
